MAJ Jason Nagy served as battalion Signal officer (S6) with 1-15th Infantry of 3rd BCT, 3rd Infantry Division (ID)in Samarra, Iraq during 2005 and 2006, and as Signal Company commander in Salman Pak, Iraq during 2007 and 2008, both in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In this March 2012 interview, MAJ Nagy discusses the importance of Signal flow, the elements he felt it was important to focus on during pre-deployment training for his second deployment, and the effects of 15 month deployments on both the Soldiers and the equipment. MAJ Nagy concludes his interview with the observation, "From a Signal leader point of view my biggest observation, and we talked this a little bit ago, is Signal flow. It sounds cliché-ish in our world, 'Yeah, you need to know the Signal flow from pushing the key to getting it on the other end of the phone call,' but if you don't know it, you can't do your job effectively. At the end of the day, if you do see failure in the Signal world, nine times out of ten it's because somebody didn't understand Signal flow and didn't know where to fix the problem."
