In this interview, MAJ Christopher Carson, US Army, Signal; discusses his deployment to Afghanistan as a Signal officer (S6) with 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division in 2010 through 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). MAJ Carson discusses his pre-deployment training and his reaction to receiving notification during his training that he was going to Afghanistan instead of Iraq. He describes his immediate reaction once he arrived in country and talks about his major responsibilities. He discusses his living quarters and meals and shares a typical day in country. MAJ Carson shares some difficult challenges he faced with his command and control relationships and closes his interview by stating the importance of, "Going to Afghanistan and building the relationships with all of the units that are key players, or at least in my field, just keeping up with their changes and the personalities involved with it."
