MAJ Douglas Baker served with the 1-71 Cavalry (CAV) in Kandahar, Afghanistan during 2009 and 2010 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). In this December 2011 interview, MAJ Baker discusses the unique situation in Afghanistan and particularly Kandahar with respect to tribal politics, how he and his unit negotiated that situation, and the sense of accomplishment he felt upon re-deployment. MAJ Baker concludes his interview with the observation, "This was the most gratifying deployment I have had where I had been able to see the impact on an individual's life or the security of people or even the government."
