In this interview, MAJ Alan Hammons, US Army, Field Artillery; discusses his deployment to Iraq as a combat advisor in 2010 through 2011 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). MAJ Hammons talks about his day-to-day missions and his role in an advise and assist brigade (AAB). He describes the makeup of the brigade and shares some of the backgrounds of some of his colleagues. He talks about having a difficult time understanding his mission and having a steep learning curve and shares how he was able to establish a battle rhythm. MAJ Hammons shares a few specific memories from his deployment and closes his interview by stating, "I don't think the marriage between combat advisors, the entity you bring to a BCT and call AAB, is a good system."
