MAJ Scott Mosley served as a fire direction officer (FDO) and platoon leader with 1-66 Armor in Taji and Tikrit, Iraq during 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In this November 2011 interview, MAJ Mosley discusses the confusion that arose from the original plan for the 4th Infantry Division (ID) to invade Iraq through Turkey, the challenges of shifting from an FDO to a platoon leader midway through his deployment, and his limited experience working with the Iraqis. MAJ Mosley concludes his interview with the observation, "I'd say that it's important not to forget, since we're at ten years of COIN, how to fight traditionally. I think that's a skill that's gone, especially in the Artillery world. I'd say we'd be challenged right now to actually operate artillery-wise in the traditional sense."
