In this interview, CPT Edward Bankston, US Army, Infantry; discusses his deployment to Afghanistan as the weapons company commander in 2010 through 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). Bankston discusses his responsibilities when he first arrived in country, details a typical day and talks about his missions while on deployment. Bankston recalls the night that he got MEDEVACd out of country and discusses his relief in place (RIP) with his successors. CPT Bankston shares how he was able to boost morale and closes his interview by stating, “The biggest thing for us that helped out was the basics. It's not just simply attack the hill but knowing the basic infantrymen skills, especially for units that have had multiple deployments to Iraq."
