MAJ Eduardo Rodriguez served as the Charlie 427 FA Commander with 2nd Brigade, 1st Armor Division at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Hammer, Iraq during 2008 and 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In this October 2011 interview, MAJ Rodriguez discusses his unit's transition to a motorized rifle company, the challenges of preparing for stability operations, and the challenges and rewards of working directly with the Iraqis. MAJ Rodriguez concludes his interview with the observation, "I think we're doing what we need to get done. Again, all of my operational experience is in Iraq and that is pretty much over. I don't know what the fight really looks like in Afghanistan, short of talking to people who've been there. I don't really have an idea necessarily of what I'm in for as far as my next deployment although I'm sure it'll be a lot more like what Iraq was like about four to five years ago, or so it seems. I think as an Army we're getting it as right as we can."
