MAJ Elizabeth Kmiecik served as the division PSYOP planner in Basra, Iraq during 2010 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In this June 2011 interview, MAJ Kmiecik discusses her role providing guidance on PSYOP to the base commander for indigenous or local population, overseeing all PSYOP plans, execution, and the effectiveness of PSYOP mentorship for officers. MAJ Kmiecik concludes her interview with the observation, "I think in general -- and we are trying to do this -- but we should be more proactive. Often we find out that we're still in a reactive situation. When I got there we had a situation that we had to react to, and if you have to react to something it is too late; we have to focus on foreseeing possible issues."
