In this interview, MAJ John Sullivan, US Army, Ordnance; discusses his 12 month deployment to Samara, Iraq as a logistics officer (S4) with the National Police Training Team (NPTT) in 2007 through 2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). MAJ Sullivan discusses his pre-deployment training at Fort Riley and how it prepared him for working alongside the Afghanistan counterparts. MAJ Sullivan shares his experience with working directly with his Afghan counterpart and describes the relationships he was able to build. MAJ Sullivan describes a typical day in country and some missions that he was directly involved with. MAJ Sullivan talks about some difficult challenges he overcame and closes his interview by stating, “Getting the teamwork down and being functional for the year and being professional with the counterparts for the year you were there was the biggest lesson curve.”
