In this interview, MAJ Alvin Tilley, US Army, Infantry; discusses his deployment to Afghanistan as a company commander in 2009 through 2010 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). MAJ Tilley discusses his pre-deployment training and his immediate thoughts once he arrived in country and shares a typical day in theater. MAJ Tilley describes his day-to-day missions with traveling to his FOBs and talks about the interaction he established with the Afghanis. MAJ Tilley talks about how he was able to boost morale for his Soldiers and closes his interview by stating, “Empower your subordinates.”
