In this interview MAJ Dustin Phillips relates his experience as part of a training team deployed to Iraq in 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). MAJ Phillips discusses the challenges he faced in this position, the lack of quality training he received before he deployed, and the things that he and his team did to overcome those problems after they arrived in theater. MAJ Phillips continues his discussion by describing his relationship with his Iraqi counterparts and how that relationship grew and developed while he was deployed. MAJ Phillips relates significant experiences he had, successes he and his Iraqi National Police (INP) counterparts achieved, and lessons he learned. MAJ Phillips also discusses his time as a company commander for the 615th MP Company in Grafenwoehr, Germany. MAJ Phillips discusses the challenge he faced in taking over that company right as they returned from Iraq and the struggles he had in preparing them to perform the garrison law enforcement mission. MAJ Phillips concludes his interview by stating, "You have to remember what your mission is and how to best train your Soldiers to do your mission."
