In this interview LTC (Ret.) Kevin Gentzler discusses his time in Iraq as a Finance battalion commander from 2006 through 2007. There for the surge, LTC (Ret.) Gentzler recalls the challenges he faced with remaining in country and additional few months, modularity, and transformation of the Finance community during his deployment. LTC (Ret.) Gentzler describes what life was like for him on a daily basis and his interaction with his detachment commanders spread out throughout the country. LTC (Ret.) Gentzler relates issues he faced with his higher headquarters and describes an interesting situation he had in his battalion with the loss of $40,000 and the events surrounding that and how the unit bounced back. LTC (Ret.) Gentzler concludes his interview by stating that he wishes he had asked for more troops after the surge kicked off so he could have provided better support and done even more for the units downrange.
