In this March 2011 interview MAJ Donald Sapp, Infantry, recounts his deployment to Iraq in 2005 and 2006 as the company commander for Alpha Company, 2-6 Infantry. MAJ Sapp describes his pre-deployment training and how well his company was prepared only to reach Camp Buehring in Kuwait and receive an entirely different mission in a different area of the country. Undaunted by the change in mission MAJ Sapp's company was excited for this more kinetic mission they were about to take on in Ar Ramadi. MAJ Sapp discusses the arrival into his area of operation (AO), the establishment of his company outpost, and actions he and his company took to begin securing their area. MAJ Sapp concludes his interview by stating that it would be better if Soldiers could get their hands on some of the new equipment they will be using in theater prior to deploying so they can incorporate the use of them into their battle drills and modify their standard operating procedures (SOPs) if necessary.
