In this February 2011 interview, MAJ Phillip Reilly, Finance Corps, discusses his 2003-2004 deployment to Iraq as the Signal officer (S6) and Finance officer handling primarily vendor pay issues in theater. Assigned to the newly formed 101st Soldier Support Battalion (SSB) MAJ Reilly discusses his deployment into theater and the numerous stops he and his unit made to disperse cash on their way up to Mosul where they eventually stayed for the remainder of his tour. MAJ Reilly discusses challenges he faced in theater in handling money and situations that arose with some of his Soldiers. MAJ Reilly imparts some lessons learned from his time in theater and the significant amount that he learned serving as the S6 on the ground. MAJ Reilly concludes his interview by stating that the Finance Corps does a good job training its Soldiers but that they need to do a better job getting Soldiers to that training.
