MAJ Eric Crispino served as fire support officer (FSO) with 2-22nd Infantry and battery commander of Alpha Battery, 3-6 Field Artillery in Shkin and Kandahar, Afghanistan during 2003 and 2004, and as a curriculum developer at the National Military Academy of Afghanistan in Kabul during 2008 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). In this November 2010 interview, MAJ Crispino discusses taking battery command midway through his first deployment, his work as an instructor at West Point, and volunteering to go back to Afghanistan to assist in the second year of operation of the National Military Academy of Afghanistan. MAJ Crispino concludes his interview with the observation, "I was thrilled to be coming home but I was really proud of what I had done. I kept a journal the whole time I was there and each week I would send back my updates of what I did that week. I would send them to my wife and she would send them out to all of her friends and then people would send them out to their friends. It really went to a lot of different people; a diverse group of people. People I knew in the military and civilians I knew from my time at graduate school. People would always write back. It was just nice to hear back from people. Everyone really seemed to appreciate what we were doing."
