MAJ Jesus Gonzalez served as executive officer (XO) with the 14th Movement Control Battalion (MCB) in Mosul, Iraq during 2004 and 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), with a training team advising the Afghan Police during 2007 and 2008 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), and as logistics planner with the 13th Sustainment Command in 2009 and 2010 at Joint Base Balad (JBB) in support of OIF. In this November 2010 interview, MAJ Gonzalez defines the mission of a MCB, discusses his work on the training team advising the Afghan Police, and the duties of a logistics planner. About halfway through his interview, MAJ Gonzalez summarized why he serves in the United States Army: "I see it as my job that I care about and that I'm very passionate about. Since I was a little kid I always wanted to be a Soldier. I've been in the military now over 17 years and it's what my job is. I don't want to watch the war on TV. I want to do something to help win it... [I'll do] whatever the Army asks me to do. I just want to do something to help win. I've been lucky that I haven't lost significant people I know, but I have lost a couple of friends and it's still painful; but it reminds you to keep going because the threat that we face now is different than what our forefathers faced. If we can keep them from coming over here to our country than I'll go to Iraq and Afghanistan as many times as I have to or that I'm capable of doing."
