In this interview MAJ Sharon Ramp, a Logistics officer, discusses her deployment to Iraq on a Worldwide Augmentation System WIAS tasking from US Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) in Louisiana. With limited guidance and direction MAJ Ramp arrived in Baghdad thinking she would be working for the logistics section (J4) at the Multinational Security Transition Command-Iraq (MNSTC-I) only to be sent to Taji a month and a half later to assume responsibilities as the officer in charge (OIC) for the M1114 replacement program. MAJ Ramp describes how she developed as a leader and an officer during her time in Iraq working in the joint realm and with the Iraqis while doing her mission. MAJ Ramp learned a lot about the Iraqi culture with the assistance of a great interpreter who she is still in contact with today. This one-year deployment for MAJ Ramp was life changing for a variety of reasons and was a very positive experience for her. MAJ Ramp concludes her interview by discussing her very quick turn-around from Iraq back to the US and how she had to permanently change stations (PCS) within a matter of days after returning from Iraq. There was no reintegration training and MAJ Ramp states that that may be the one downfall for those who deploy on these WIAS taskings. Overall, MAJ Ramp had an interesting and unique deployment and states that it was something she would volunteer to do again.
