MAJ Jane Sander served as a company commander with the 51st Signal Battalion in Baghdad and Camp Babylon, Iraq during 203 and 2004, volunteered to help field the Combat Survivor Evader Locater (CSEL) radio out of Logistical Support Area (LSA) Anaconda in 2005, and as a psychological operations (PSYOP) detachment commander in Camp Victory, Iraq during 2009, all in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In this May 2010 interview, MAJ Sander discusses her first deployment early in the engagement in Iraq, the circumstances surrounding her injuries and those of one of her Soldiers, and her change of branch to PSYOP and her third deployment in that role. MAJ Sander concludes her interview with the observation, "Soldiers are responsible and smart; they get the mission done. If you empower them and continue to let them know what a good job they're doing, you'll be surprised what they can accomplish. They do such a good job and I'm so proud of them."
