MAJ Scott Broome served as operations officer (S3) for D Squadron, 5 Troop of the Asymmetric Warfare Group (AWG) in Bagram, Kandahar, Helmand and Khowst, Afghanistan during 2008 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). In this April 2010 interview, MAJ Broome discusses the specialized training program utilized by the AWG, his success in getting the lighter-weight MK48 machine guns issued to Soldiers by October 2008, and his work with the Marines in Helmand Province. MAJ concludes his interview with the observation, "This war has been going on for quite some time now and it's taken until almost now to realize that we need to be more flexible."
