MAJ James Doty served as an intelligence advisor with the Office of the Program Manager - Saudi Arabia National Guard (OPM-SANG) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia during 2008 and 2009. In this April 2010 interview, MAJ Doty discusses the nature of the OPM-SANG mission, his role in it, and his experiences participating in a major training exercise with the Saudi Arabian National Guard. MAJ Doty concludes his interview with that observation that we need to create "a zone of interaction. Two cultures are separate somewhere there is a place where they can meet in the middle and understand each other. In Latin America history they talk about the border; the border is the zone of interaction. You go down there and eat Tex-Mex. It's in between the two cultures and it's a place where people can exist together. That is what we need to do with all of our allies so we can better understand them and they understand us. That's what this mission does. It helps build the zone of interaction between us and the Saudis so we understand each other better."
