In this interview MAJ Miller discusses his deployment to Iraq in 2003 and 2004 with the 8th Finance Battalion, 266th Finance Command out of Germany. MAJ Miller's battalion supported the 2nd BCT from the 1st Armored Division and was assigned to BIAP. MAJ Miller's detachment worked at BIAP and in the Green Zone supporting the soldiers. MAJ Miller describes the duties a finance officer is responsible for in a combat zone and how to provide quality support for the units you are working for. Major Miller's unit got caught up in an extension and wound up staying for 15 months. He talks briefly about that and how his soldiers carried on. MAJ Miller concludes his interview by stating that all CSS officers could benefit greatly from spending two years in a combat arms branch prior to moving over to a CSS branch and to get the CSS officers and soldiers involved in combat operations every once in a while.
