In this interview, MAJ Eric Penrod of the US Marine Corps discusses his deployment to Iraq as a staff officer with the 2 MEF in the counter-IED cell as part of the G3 from February 2007-February 2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). MAJ Penrod describes his experiences in developing this new kind of cell; the challenges in cross-leveling with the different staff sections to create the cell and the various jobs he held within the cell during his one-year deployment. MAJ Penrod concludes his interview by discussing what the Marine Corps may be able to learn from the Army.
