US Marine Corps Maj Eric Penrod served as company commander of Charlie Company, 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion (CEB) in Fallujah, Iraq during 2005 and 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In the first of two February 2009 interviews, Maj Penrod discusses his unit's various missions, including counter-IED, cordon and knock and weapons cache searches, his mission to set up and monitor vehicle checkpoints in Fallujah, and his unit's role in supporting the elections in 2006.
