USMC Maj Jason Gaddy served as the battalion logistics officer (4) with the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Korean Village (KV) during 2005 and 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In this December 2009 interview, Maj Gaddy discusses the general duties of a battalion 4, the conditions on the ground when his unit arrived in Iraq for both deployments, and a three-day operation to clear the nearby town of Rutbah. Maj Gaddy makes the surprising (from some points of view) observation that despite the austere conditions and nearly constant threat level, morale was good: "The Marines: they love being deployed and doing what they're supposed to be doing."
