MAJ Pete Hathaway served as the company commander of Delta Company, 1-227th Aviation Unit Maintenance (AVUM) company and as executive officer (X)) of at the Aviation Support Battalion (ASB) at Camp Taji during 2006 and 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In the third of three February 2009 interviews, MAJ Hathaway discusses the changes he saw in Camp Taji and in Iraq over the course of his three deployments, his change of command partway through the deployment, and the challenges of working with large numbers of contractors, both for him and for his soldiers. MAJ Hathaway observed that on this deployment, "I got to spend a full year over there this time around and got to see operations for a full year. It gave me a lot to think about; seeing how things changed every time I was there and the environment on the ground. My perspective on the way things were going in Iraq changed a little bit."
