MAJ Dale DeStefano served as the brigade supply officer (S4) with the 504th Military Intelligence (MI) brigade during 2006 and 2007 at Victory Base Complex (VBC), Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In this first of two October 2009 interviews, MAJ DeStefano discusses his somewhat non-traditional S4 role and duties, how he dealt with the frequent mortar attacks at VBC, and the challenges of the cultural difference between the various nationalities of the people regularly at VBC. MAJ DeStefano concludes his interview with a detailed discussion of the difficulties of family re-integration after long deployments and how he, his wife and his children work through those issues.
