MAJ Jack Sander served as the commander of the 270th Signal Company and the special troops battalion (STB) operations officer (S3) during 2008 and 2009 at Victory Base Complex (VBC), Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In this November 2009 interview, MAJ Sander discusses his unique signal mission installing, operating and maintaining technical control facilities (TCFs), the change in his responsibilities on this deployment, and the pride he felt being part of turning the Green Zone back over to the government of Iraq. MAJ Sander concludes his interview with the observation: " At the risk of stating the obvious I'd like to say that the interagency involvement between all the agencies -- Department of State and military forces -- is essential to conducting stability operations and enabling civil authority."
