MAJ Jason Kinkaid served as the Company Commander of the 509th Signal Battalion in Bagram, Afghanistan during 2005 and 2006 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). In this October 2009 interview, MAJ Kinkaid discusses his transition from the 1-508th Infantry Battalion, the differences between the conditions and enemy activity between Iraq a year earlier and Afghanistan, and the challenges he faced as a company commander in a culture that doesn't necessarily provide feedback to officers on a day-to-day basis. MAJ Kinkaid concludes his interview with the observation "If my soldiers perceive that I'm making a mistake, I have no problems with them putting me in my place."
