MAJ Jason Kinkaid served as the signals officer (S6) for the 1-508th Infantry Battalion under the 173rd Infantry Brigade near Tuz, Iraq during 2003 and 2004 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In this October 2009 interview, MAJ Kinkaid discusses the Green to Gold program, the evolution of his duties to including directing communications and power for projects in the Tuz area, and the challenges of his technical duties. MAJ Kinkaid concludes this interview with the observation that "one of the best things I've learned as a field grade officer is not to ping. If you ping, you're just going to make everyone else ping, and that doesn't work very well for getting the job done."
