MAJ Juan Nava served as the joint intelligence officer and joint operations officer on a transition team during 2005 and 2006 at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Loyalty in Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In this August 2009 interview, MAJ Nava discusses the changing nature of the transition team's mission, the difficulties he faced when first introduced to his Iraqi counterparts, and the various other challenges of working in an advisory role. MAJ Nava concludes his interview with the observation that "from the first deployment in OIF I to the second in 2005-2006, there was an enormous amount of progress made in the country."
