MAJ Timothy Diley served as the Brigade Fires Coordinator of 18th Brigade, 5th Iraqi Division Military Transition Team (MiTT) at Kirkush Military Training Base, Diyala Province, Iraq during 2008 and 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In the second part of a two part interview in October 2009, MAJ Diley discusses the changes he noted in pre-deployment training between this deployment and his first deployment in 2003, the importance of training and deploying as a unit, and the challenges and rewards of working directly with the Iraqi Army. MAJ Diley continues his interview by observing that the Iraqi people were much more receptive to US troop presence on this deployment, because (in his opinion), "they understood that we were really trying to help their situation." MAJ Diley closes by agreeing that his unit excelled at their mission, and saying, "in terms of making the Iraqi Army better... I think we definitely had an impact."
