Major Nicholas Dickson, US Army, supported the 25th Infantry Division as a Civil Affairs (CA) Officer, serving in Kirkuk, Iraq in 2003 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. MAJ Dickson discusses his pre-deployment training, and the fact that it was not typically targeted to a CA mission. MAJ Dickson then talks about his duties as a CA officer, including assisting the Iraqis to set up basic life services (electricity, water and other municipality functions) and operation of a Civil Military Operations Center (CMOC). MAJ Dickson concludes the interview by stating " we could have been so much more productive and so much more successful in what we were doing had we integrated our mission with our support unit's mission better, and had we really functioned as one team instead of just rogue civil affairs teams out there trying to do the right thing."
