In this interview, Major Sam Cates, British Army, Infantry Officer, talks about his deployment to Basrah, Iraq in 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Cates discusses his personal experience with deployment as he expresses his thoughts on losing soldiers during the first days of his deployment as well as the challenges he faced while dealing with those losses and continuing to be a leader. Cates closes his interview by saying that the communication was incredible and it helped throughout the deployment to have an efficient communication system in place.
