MAJ Ann Dunscombe served as Commander of the 212th Military Police Company under the 716th Military Police Battalion of the 1/82nd Airborne in Shindand and Bagram, Afghanistan during 2005 and 2006 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). In this October 2009 interview, MAJ Dunscombe discusses her deployment form the shock of losing a soldier on Day 3, to the specific duties of an MP company, to the perceived and actual challenges serving as a female in a combat situation. MAJ Dunscombe talks about a particularly gratifying moment for one of her female platoon leaders supporting a Marine platoon, summarizing the experience by saying "You just have to prove yourself; I think it's fun." MAJ Dunscombe also talks at length about the benefits and drawbacks of constant communication back home, touching on the impact of false reports on families. She concludes the interview with the observation that she "always had very good leaders... and that rolls downhill."
