From September 2006 through September 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Major Tim Cyprian served as the casualty area command officer in charge with 3rd PERSCOM, based at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. In this interview, he discusses predeployment casualty operations training done at Fort McCoy; the myriad challenges he faced working in the mortuary affairs field; the excellent living conditions they had, especially compared to his first deployment; the imperative of running an absolutely error-free operation; and also the struggles he faced in ensuring that casualty figures were received and reported accurately. Cyprian, a US Army reservist, closes his interview by telling how hard his children took his deploying overseas for a second time and that his daughter actually wrote her congressman to ask why her dad had to go back. What's more, his wife was diagnosed with cancer while he was deployed but is fortunately now in remission.
