Lieutenant Colonel Mark Crisman served as the intelligence officer for 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division in Iraq in 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In this email correspondence interview, he talks about detainee holding areas at the task force and battalion level, the learning curve on employing tactical human intelligence teams, and the direction of interrogations. He also discusses frustrations with the lack of documentation in a detainee packet, the lack of pressure from higher headquarters about extracting intelligence, and the level of oversight on detainee operations. Crisman closes the interview by stating that he had complete trust and confidence in the interrogators and their chain of command.
