In this first of three interviews, Major Steven Beaumont talks about serving as the communications officer for Task Force Warrior in Fort Jackson, Mississippi and Tazar, Hungary, from October 2002 through April 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He discusses the small size of the starting staff and the resulting amount of overwork, the difficulties of getting any support as an outside organization, and the assistance the reservists and Sprint gave him setting up the communications in Tazar. He also talks about the ad hoc nature of the task force, differing levels of support from different echelons of command, and about organizing task forces from the very beginning around the correct sized staff with an appropriately-ranked commander.
