In this second of two interviews, Major Joe Hansen talks about serving as the division support brigade assistant logistics officer for the 24th Corps Support Group from January 2005 through January 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He discusses the live-fire and convoy training they did prior to deployment, the differences in utilizing uparmored and unarmored Humvees, the lack of visible improvements since his previous deployment, and the advantage of having a native speaker of Arabic within the unit. He also talks about the sequence of events following the loss of a soldier, the poor communication between units experienced during a handoff, how he would improve handoffs between division-sized units, and working with a unit from the Minnesota National Guard. Hansen closes the interview by stating the importance of the post-deployment health assessment.
