Major Tobin Moore commanded Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry throughout Afghanistan from July 2003 through May 2004 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In this interview, he discusses being assigned to the unit one month prior to deploying, being stationed in Kandahar but moving all around Afghanistan, understanding the strengths and cultural norms of the Afghan soldiers, and the challenge of fighting a counterinsurgency without good human intelligence. He also talks about the living conditions at Kandahar, dealing with the Israeli media, the variability of relations with the various Special Forces units, and the work that his wife did in running the company family readiness group. He closes the interview by recommending that the Army's human intelligence program be reexamined.
