Major Rob Arnold returned from his deployment with Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) and joined the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team as the military police plans officer in January 2004. In August 2005, Arnold deployed with the 172nd as the provost marshal in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In this interview, Arnold discusses the predeployment training, predeployment sight survey and the movement and reception once in Kuwait. The unit moved to Mosul for their handoff. Arnold spent most of his time handling detainee operations within a detention facility, while the remainder of his time was spent on force protection and working with the Iraqi Police/police transition teams. Arnold discusses the challenges working with different brigades. The 172nd redeployed in December 2006. During this deployment, the family readiness group was very strong and supportive.
