From July 2002 through July 2003, Major Theresa Masengale served as chief of operations in the 7th Transportation Group's S3 shop, during which time she deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and on the group staff oversaw the movement and subsequent in-theater operations of two truck battalions and three terminal battalions, along with "thousands and thousands of pieces of equipment." Arriving in Kuwait in January 2003, once major combat kicked off, Masengale found herself as part of a small team that went forward into Iraq as the eyes and ears of the group commander to establish what became Convoy Support Center (CSC) Cedar, and then also Tallil Airfield. She discusses the myriad challenges involved in such large endeavors, as well as the process of redeploying the group. Masengale talks about the opportunity she had to work at the theater level, leadership lessons she learned and what it was like to be deployed at the same time as her husband, who was actually serving in one of the battalions in 7th Group that she was overseeing in the S3 shop.
