From April through November 2002 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan, Major Thomas Gravlee commanded the 763rd Ordnance Company (EOD). In this interview, he discusses the diverse range of explosive ordnance disposal missions his company performed while being operationally controlled by the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force, which included work with both US and coalition specials ops units. He also talks about his company's support of combat operations with Task Force Rakkasan (101st Airborne Division) and Task Force Panther (82nd Airborne Division); the missile buyback program under the auspices of other government agencies; as well as his unit's close working relationship with Afghan Military Forces. Throughout his tour, Gravlee operated in Kandahar, Khowst, Orgun-E and Herat. He closes his interview by encouraging EOD's tighter integration with the special operations community and also touching on the problem of retention (particularly among NCOs) in the EOD field.
