Major Sonak was commander of Alpha Company Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Division during her deployment to Iraq. She describes some of the issues they had during all phases of her deployment including the new fielding of Joint Network Node (JNN) equipment and the difficulties they had with tactical local area network encryption (TACLANES) and the 1st Cavalry Division. Sonak discusses the problems associated with modularity and the personnel issues it produces. Command post of the future (CPOF) is a topic that Major Sonak delves into.
