CW2 Branam was the senior network tech for Combined Joint Task Force-76/25th Infantry Division while deployed from March 2004 to March 2005 at Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan. He discusses the issues they had to overcome in all three phases: pre-deployment, deployment/sustainment and redeployment. The support they provided not only to the warfighter but to provincial reconstruction teams is also detailed. Compatibility is also another issue that Chief Branam discusses along with the incorporation of commercial equipment into the system. CW2 Branam also explains some of the issues with secure communications in Afghanistan. Finally he explains his thoughts on how to improve the tactical and technical training of signal soldiers.
