As the assistant brigade engineer for 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, Major Mike Binetti was a staff officer involved in the war plan for the invasion of Iraq and was actively involved in the brigade's engineering effort from the crossing of the berm up until the fall of Baghdad. In this interview, he discusses the defenses (or lack thereof) they had to contend with during the march up, his responsibilities in unexploded ordnance removal and airfield clearance once in the Iraqi capital, and the circumstances surrounding his assumption of company command in country.
