From May through October 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Major Chris Grice commanded the 68th Chemical Company, part of 4th Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division. In this interview, Grice discusses his company's control of an NGO airport in Baghdad, security of LSA Dogwood, the search for Saddam Hussein's body in rubble following an air strike, the security of Uday and Qusay Hussein's bodies, patrol of the Abu Ghraib district, force protection assessments, a variety of soldier issues, and the cleaning of Apache, Kiowa and Blackhawk helicopters. In addition, he recommends that basic infantry tasks be incorporated into every soldier's training and also offers some insights into how the Iraq environment can affect certain soldiers: "There are a lot of soldiers who are fathers and mothers and when you deploy to an environment where there's so much pain and so much lack of welfare for children, it's hard to see on a daily basis. There are kids running around with no clothes on and the level of care they get is so minimal. It affects everybody who has kids."
