From February to June 2003, Major Michelle Washington was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with the XVIII Airborne Corps, during which she served as the strength manager in the combined staff personnel section (C1). Based primarily at Bagram Airbase, she was responsible for sending the daily joint personnel status and casualty report to Central Command, tracking coalition and US forces' strength, conducting casualty reporting on all personnel and ensuring that the reports were always completely accurate.
