The second of four interviews concerning his Global War on Terrorism deployments, this covers US Army Special Forces Major Jack Noyes' November 2004 to July 2005 deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, during which he served as commander of Operational Detachment Alpha (ODA) 161, part of Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group. Noyes' ODA was given an area in the Khowst region, operated out of Firebase Chapman and was given the responsibility for security along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. "The overall mission," he said, "was to try and prevent the Taliban from coming across the border, resupplying and conducting operations deep within Afghanistan against our logistical hubs or any other targets of opportunity." Noyes also discusses his newfound appreciation for Marine Corps aviation and his work with Afghan Security Forces.
