From September 2004 through April 2005, Major Charles Golek of the 9th Psychological Operations Battalion served as a tactical PSYOP detachment commander under the 1st Marine Division in Ramadi, Iraq, specifically supporting 2nd Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division. Golek's detachment was responsible for providing all planning and execution of tactical psychological operations and served as the primary PSYOP advisors to the brigade commander and six subordinate battalion commanders. They also supported the Iraqi national elections in January 2005 and shaping operations for the November 2004 combined-joint assault on the city of Fallujah (Operation Al Fajr).
