Sergeant Christopher Roe of the Pennsylvania National Guard served in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom - specifically Task Force Olympia - from February 2003 through February 2004 with 1st Battalion, 107th Field Artillery Regiment. In this interview, he discusses working outside his artillery military occupational specialty as part of a personal security detachment for high-ranking task force officers, civilians and Iraqi nationals. Roe also talks about the cultural relations piece; the advantages of being a National Guard soldiers and some of the prejudices they initially encountered from the Active Component; and how his life has changed as a result of this deployment.
